Aerate and Overseed
There are a couple ways to aerate your lawn. Spike aeration uses spikes on a roller, while core aeration requires specialized equipment that removes small plugs of soil, grass, and thatch. This is the lawn aeration method we rely on at Allservice home and Lawn because it’s more effective and longer lasting. Once performed, air, water, and nutrients can move more freely into the soil and absorption will become more efficient. Likewise:
- Stronger, deeper roots will develop
- Your lawn will be able to better tolerate environmental stressors
- Grass will grow in thicker and more vibrant
Overseeding is a great addition after having your lawn aerated. You want new grass to get off to the best start possible. That’s why it’s so important to time seeding right. In the Columbia area, the ideal time for lawn seeding is in autumn. That’s because new grass can grow in without having to compete with broadleaf weeds for nutrients and water. The blend of warm days, cool nights, and plenty of rainfall combine to provide perfect conditions for germination and initial plant development.
